How a project runs

A kitchen usually takes six to nine months from the first call to install day. Here is where the weeks go.

From the first call to install day

Times are for a typical kitchen or addition. A single room is shorter.

  1. Week 1

    A first call

Twenty minutes on the phone about the house, the rooms, a budget range and when you would like to be finished.

  2. Weeks 1 to 2

    Consultation at the house

Johanna measures, takes photos and listens. You get written notes and a rough budget within a week.

  3. Weeks 2 to 3

    Proposal and fixed fee

One page: the scope, the fee, the schedule and what is not included. Nothing starts until you sign it.

  4. Weeks 3 to 14

    Design at the sample table

Plans, elevations and finishes, reviewed at the studio with the samples in your hands. Two rounds of revisions are in the fee.

  5. Weeks 12 to 18

    Pricing and permit

Design-build clients get a fixed construction price from Tomas. We submit the drawings to the village building department.

  6. 8 to 26 weeks, by scope

    Construction

A site photo and schedule update every Friday. Dust walls and floor protection go up on day one.

  7. Final 2 weeks

    Install day and walk-through

Furniture, rugs and art go in on one day. We walk the house with you and finish the punch list within 30 days.

What you hear from us during construction

Every Friday afternoon you get one photo from the site and three lines: what was done this week, what happens next week, and anything we need from you.

If a decision is needed, Tomas calls the same day. If the schedule moves by more than a week, you hear it from Johanna before it happens.

The first step is a twenty-minute call

Johanna reads every inquiry herself and replies soon, usually with two or three questions and a time to talk.
